Sally’s Bio

Sally McKenzie is a retail and e-commerce industry veteran with over 25 years of leadership success spanning brick & mortar, catalog and online channels. Sally’s extensive experience covers strategic planning, merchandising, marketing, product development, and online operations for companies such as Eddie Bauer, Classmates.com and Expedia.

After beginning her career in retail merchandising and buying, Sally made the shift to online retail in 1996 (the very early days of e-commerce!) as part of the initial Eddiebauer.com launch team. As the business grew, she became Eddie Bauer’s Vice President of E-commerce, and was responsible for the financial performance and strategic direction. During her tenure, she was twice honored with the company’s Best of Bauer award for innovation and profitable performance.

Sally then moved into the social networking space at Classmates.com, as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Strategic Planning, where she was responsible for brand positioning, customer acquisition and retention, customer care, site experience and design.

Following Classmates.com, Sally moved to Expedia, first serving as Senior Vice President of Merchandising & Retail Operations, and later as Senior Vice President and General Manager of Expedia.com, with P&L accountability for the company’s $9 billion online business.

Sally has served on the advisory boards for Shop.org, Internet Retailer Magazine and the University of Washington E-Business Consortium, and is a frequent speaker at e-commerce industry events. She has served on the board of directors for Jewish Family Service of Seattle, and has volunteered at the Seattle Humane Society. For the last 5 years, she has served as an MBA Student Mentor at Seattle University.

Sally lives and works in downtown Seattle with her husband Chuck, beagle Dagny and “business partner” cats Vincent and Theo. Her home office boasts a “hummingbird friendly” rooftop garden where visiting birds provide ongoing inspiration for Sally’s work. She is an accomplished cook, online shopper (no surprise), avid reader and traveler. Sally loves working up a sweat either at the gym or outside.
